Our History

From the Ground Up

Our company began in January of 1977 with Adlai and Irene Pittman. Adlai ran the jobs and Irene ran the books from inside their garage office. They built the company from the ground up, with only their dreams and family to push and support them. As the company began to outgrow the garage office, they built a larger location on Sunbeam Road. As time moved on and the company grew, their kids began to get into the family business.

The youngest son of Adlai and Irene, Todd Pittman, is the current President. He has worked diligently since 1983 and through his 35+ year tenure, he learned every aspect of concrete from the ground up. In 2012, he became the sole owner of A.A. Pittman & Sons Concrete Co., after Adlai and Irene Pittman retired.

In 1990, one of the most significant contributions to the company occurred. It was the acquisition of Lance Clayton’s company, Formwork Specialist. Prior to this, Pittman Concrete was missing one ingredient: Cast-in-place concrete. Afterwards, Lance brought his immense knowledge of concrete formwork to Pittman and filled the gap. Lance Clayton has been with Pittman Concrete ever since.

Our Founders Adlai and Irene Pittman

In early 2016, A.A. Pittman & Sons Concrete Co. acquired one of their longest and largest competitors, E.C. Concrete. Through this acquisition, Pittman Concrete gained even more experience, knowledge, and manpower, which has helped with the company’s continued success. However, while our team members are grateful for the successful merging of the 2 companies, we would like to lovingly remember the late Gregory & Janice Schwartzenberger, owners of E.C. Concrete who passed away in a plane crash in 2012.

In July of 2017, the company moved from its long-time location on Sunbeam Road to its current location at 650 E. 27th Street, a 6 acre facility with over 45,000 square feet. We now operate out of two locations 27th Street and 6760 Greenland Industrial Blvd,
Jacksonville, FL 32258

In 2022 Pittman Concrete grew yet again with the acquisition of Jim’s Concrete of Brevard. Jim’s Concrete was another large competitor in the Jacksonville area. They have added another piece of the puzzle with their wealth of knowledge in the big box tilt up world. With the relationships and people gained through the Jim’s Concrete acquisition, Pittman Concrete is the largest concrete contractor in NE Florida.
